Photographs of Potential Locations
These are the images of potential locations we could use for our music video. Despite the weather not being exactly how we wanted it to be we could only hope for the best and pay close attention to the weather forecasts. In addition, because the location was rather far away it would be best to do all the recording in one day and record extra so we have more footage to work with. Furthermore the actual travel to this location helped us to plan our timing in future filming and make sure that we had enough time to record everything required.
Story board evaluation
All of the people that answered my questionnaire believed that the story board suits the genre of the chosen song. The following means that it is
Judging the response I got from this. There won't be any changes required seeing as I believe that there are enough close up shots of the lead singer and possibly even too many.
From gathering responses to this question I gathered that there may not be enough narrative in the music video for the audience to watch and understand the story.
viable for me to go ahead with this music video idea.
Almost everyone believed that the pace of the video is suitable for the song. Although one person may have disagreed, it might just mean that a slight change in the pace of editing may be required.
Gathering from the responses I have received it is safe to assume to not changes are required for this particular section on the music video.
Analysing the responses I acquired from the following question. I can safely assume that I should proceed in the future production to use the same type of shots for the music video.

For this section, I believe that the target audience thought the guitar solo and just the instrumental part of the song may have been too repetitive. This can be fixed by either implementing performance into the narrative or simply adding more narrative.

The production of the following template has helped us to allocate responsabilities in our group and decide who will take care of different aspects during the production. In addition planning ahead and deciding on what clothing, equipment and editing programmes we will need would greatly help the time efficiency during the production if everything goes according to plan.

Test Shoot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MoxwghqW60&feature=youtu.be
This is the first test shoot we have produced. The objective was to get used to the equipment and see if the actor is suitable for the lead singer role. Furthermore this test shoot has also helped us experiment with a different range of shots and see which ones would be the most suitable for the music video.
Over all I believe that the actor we are planning to use as the lead singer is suitable for the role.

Chosen Idea
Girl is about to commit suicide. There is a long shot of her stepping off the edge of the roof. Fade to black edit cut used to represent the flashback, going back to the times when she was with her boyfriend during the good time slowly leading to when it all goes wrong. The flashback would be in black and white and the present will be coloured. However at the end the lead singer saves her and at the end they both leave the train station which will be a direct link of visuals to the lyrics “I’m leaving the station and cold weather kills my past lifetime” suggesting they have both left everything in the past.
OR
Guy is about to commit suicide. The girl saves him at the end. Before the jump there are flash backs and near the end the girl comes along and stops him from jumping.
Overall the concept with the guy about to commit suicide will be chosen. This is due to the fact that it would be possible to implement some performance into the narrative if the lead singer will be the actor as well. Additionally the audience would be more familiar with the male actor being the hero, this idea is long overdue and I thought it would be better to create the opposite.
There will be difficulties during the production especially the roof scene. Safety will be the biggest issue in this scene.

Digipak Analysis
The name of the artist is displayed on the front cover of the digipak above the name of the album itself. This connotes that the artist is well known and are selling the music rather than themselves. The image on the front cover is of the band itself possibly during one of their performances, although you may not see their faces, the target audience is aware of who they are and what genre of music they produce. Furthermore the image further emphasises that the genre of their music is house/electro house and that the Swedish House Mafia performs live. An establishing shot is used to show the crowd gathered in front of the band which suggests that they are very well known.
In addition to this the band is facing their live audience and their back to the viewer of the digipak. This connotes that they are more live performance based band.
The title of their song is emphasised and is more visible in comparison to the name of the band and we can see the performers are holding their hands up and pointing upwards, this gesture is also a direct visual link to the name of the song being “One” which during 2010 was their lead single and was in the top charts for a very long time. From this one can gather that the reason for not advertising the band as much as possible, they are reliant on the fact that everyone is already aware of them and their music. Furthermore there is no dominant image present but instead one can assume that the three of them are shown as ‘one’ dominant image which further emphasises the title of the song and suggests the three members of the band being one. The target audience of this CD cover is most likely to be young adults that are out partying and are most likely to hear the song at dance clubs or during gigs.
Also looking at the music video for the following song, all the points that have been mentioned are indeed true. Seeing as in the music video there is only performance present with no narrative, something we would expect from the genre of the song. Furthermore the band is not part of the performance, this connotes that their songs are most likely to be played by a DJ in a club which the female performer represented in the music video.
Another CD cover I have looked at is The Script – For the First Time. The focus of their digipak is completely different to the previous one. The target audience can see the band as a whole with the lead singer being in front, the guitarist and drummer in the background, this emphasises the lead singer suggesting his importance to the band. The genre of the music is Alternative Rock, pop rock and indie rock. This can be gathered not only from the style of their music but also from the clothing, being dark clothing with light coloured t-shirts. In addition to this the background of the image being a field during a sunny day makes the band stand out in their dark clothing. The name of the band stands out the most in contrast to the name of the album itself. This implies that they may not be well known and are focusing on advertising themselves rather than their music at the current time. One can assume that the main focus of this CD cover would be to inform the audience of ‘The Script’ and make them consider listen to their music.
The target audience of ‘The Script’ is most likely to be male/female ranging from age of sixteen to thirty, so more or less young adults. This is suggested by the actual genre of their songs that may not appeal to a more elderly audience. Furthermore the song ‘For the First time’ was a massive hit during the 2010, this would be during the stage when the band was only starting becoming famous, so placing the name of their lead single on the CD cover would attract the audience seeing as they are most likely to be familiar with that specific song.
In addition from watching the music video for the following song, one can gather that the band is more performance based however there is also narrative present that can relate to the target audience and possibly created solely for entertainment purposes.
Concept ideas for the music video
Flash the Readies – Susie
Concept 1
The intertexual reference of the music video could be based on a romantic film like ‘Dear John’ or ‘The Vow’. Sad love story is the first thing that comes to mind when listening to this song.
Concept 2
Another possible idea for my music video would be a guy running away from his past in attempt to make new friends and meet new people. However he is unsuccessful throughout the video until he meets a girl at the end whose name is Susie.
Concept 3
Girl is about to commit suicide. Flashback going back to the good time that has gone wrong so the audience would see the reason to commit suicide. The flashback would be in black and white and the present will be coloured. However at the end the lead singer saves her and at the end they both leave the train station which will be a direct link of visuals to the lyrics “I’m leaving the station and cold weather kills my past lifetime” suggesting they have both left everything in the past.
